Corporate Event Entertainment Ideas That Go Beyond the Expected

When planning a corporate event, organisers often confirm the venue, speakers and catering before turning to entertainment. At that point, the task can appear deceptively simple: find an act, agree on a set time and give guests something enjoyable to watch. Yet the choice undoubtedly influences the atmosphere, pace and character of the event.

When done right, entertainment injects energy into a corporate event and stimulates conversation, ensuring the evening resonates with guests while reflecting an event’s theme. Drawing on our extensive experience planning corporate events at Cosmic Violet Events, we’ve put together a selection of creative and unique entertainment ideas that bring employees or peers together for an unforgettable evening.

How Entertainment Makes Corporate Events Special

Entertainment gives guests something to share beyond the formal programme. It can lift the atmosphere after a day of presentations, encourage conversation between colleagues who have never met, and give an event its own unique character.

For evening events in particular, entertainment can be an opportunity to really let loose, particularly after a long day of more corporate proceedings. Whether it’s a magician mingling with guests over drinks, an awards ceremony hosted by a comedian, or a post-dinner live band, marking the day-to-night transition with entertainment creates variety and helps maintain interest without crowding the schedule. This is particularly important when planning different types of corporate events, as the entertainment that suits a conference opening may feel out of place at a client dinner or team celebration.

Event Entertainment That Represents Your Corporate Brand

Entertainment is an inspired way for a company to express its personality at corporate events without relying on overt or excessive branding. A technology business might commission cutting-edge digital or interactive art, while a company whose culture veers towards the playful may opt for a comedian, roaming performers, or an energetic dance act.

The connection should feel credible to the people in the room. Consider how the company communicates, why guests are attending, and what impression the event should leave. A showstopping headline act may suit a major anniversary or client celebration, whereas live art inspired by a company’s work could pique interest around a product launch.

Experienced corporate event planning helps bring the creative and practical elements together, including the venue, audience, timing, staging and technical requirements.

For an example of some showstopping entertainment at a corporate event, take a look at this party we threw for pet retailer Jollyes, which includes carnival games, circus-style entertainment and live music!

Ideas for Corporate Event Entertainment

The entertainment should reflect the purpose of the event, the guests attending, and the amount of time available. Some ideas provide a focal point for the whole room, while others allow guests to participate in smaller groups or at their own pace.

1. Live Bands and Headline Acts

A live band can help an evening seamlessly segue from dinner into dancing, and a headline act, be it a DJ or a function band, marks the pinnacle of a company anniversary or large celebration.

2. DJs and Musicians

A string quartet, pianist or acoustic musician can accompany arrivals and dinner before a DJ takes over later. Switching up the music over the course of the evening helps to create distinct moments as the night progresses, from the exhilarating to the intimate.

3. Quizzes and Game Shows

A hosted quiz can combine general knowledge with light-hearted references to the company or industry. Interactive entertainment always goes down well with people. Digital voting allows larger audiences to join from their tables and see the results as each round unfolds — playfully stoking people’s competitive spirits.

4. Collaborative Challenges

Creative building tasks and problem-solving activities give colleagues a shared objective while stimulating their imaginations. Businesses can choose corporate team-building activities centred on communication, collaboration or another relevant aim — so that the purpose of the event is both to engage and entertain.

5. Escape-Room-Style Activities

Portable escape rooms and puzzle challenges can be adapted to the venue and completed by teams in timed rounds. They work particularly well when guests are happy to become actively involved, and may also help some more reticent colleagues come out of their shell.

6. Simulators and Virtual Reality

Racing and sports simulators, or virtual-reality experiences, allow guests to take part in short sessions throughout the event. A scoreboard can introduce competition without requiring everyone to participate at the same time.

7. Sporting Challenges

Table tennis, mini golf and reaction games can bring some friendly competition and repartee to a party or away day. It’s important to consider, of course, the available space alongside the physical demands and any accessibility requirements.

8. Treasure Hunts and Team Tournaments

Treasure hunts and multi-round tournaments suit retreats and outdoor events where more time is available. Clues and challenges can also be developed around the venue, company or purpose of the day.

9. Entertainment for Award Ceremonies

Entertainment at an awards ceremony needs to fit around presentations, speeches and breaks. Short performances can help vary the pace, while an experienced host can guide guests through the running order. Our corporate award ceremony planning covers rehearsals, presenter cues, entertainment and delivery on the night.

10. Entertainment for Gala Dinners and Auctions

For corporate and charity gala dinners, entertainment must be coordinated with food service, speeches, auctions and fundraising. Different acts can be introduced throughout the evening, with the main performance scheduled once the formal programme has finished.

Hiring Live Performers for a Corporate Event

Begin with the role the performer will play. An opening act needs to capture attention quickly, whereas evening entertainment could revitalise the atmosphere amid a post-dinner lull. A roaming performer has a different role, creating smaller moments among guests while other parts of the reception continue.

Before confirming an act, check:

  • Whether their style suits the company, guests and purpose of the event.
  • How much performance and rehearsal space they require.
  • What sound, lighting, rigging or staging is needed.
  • How their set will fit around catering, speeches and presentations.
  • Whether travel, accommodation and changing facilities are required.
  • Who will approve the music, costumes, choreography and final running order.

These details can affect the entire programme, especially when several acts are used across one day or evening.

Unique Live Performers for Corporate Events

11. Dance Troupes

A dance troupe can provide an opening performance, introduce the event theme, or appear as a surprise later in the programme.

For a three-day conference held by a large AI technology and finance company, we created a Mamma Mia-inspired set with the scale of a West End production. A troupe of 25 dancers performed an ABBA medley as an unexpected opening, bringing energy to the room at the start of the three-day conference.

We arranged the dancers’ travel and accommodation, scheduled rehearsal time, approved the songs and signed off the choreography. The performance also had to be coordinated with the conference programme and technical setup.

12. Acrobats, Contortionists and Stilt Walkers

Acrobatic performers offer more than enough spectacle to fill a large venue. Their involvement may range from welcoming guests to performing a scheduled routine during an awards ceremony or gala dinner.

For a Greatest Showman-themed awards ceremony, we went out on a limb and hired stilt walkers, a contortionist and a lollipop acrobat. We agreed on the music, set lengths and timings with the performers, then placed the acts at different points throughout the evening. For anyone looking to replicate this, bear in mind that it’s an ambitious undertaking, so rigging, ceiling height, performance space and safety requirements should all be confirmed early.

13. Themed Dancers

Costume, music and choreography can connect a dance performance closely to the wider event. We hired four flapper dancers for a Great Gatsby-themed 40th birthday celebration, selecting their outfits and music and coordinating the setup and timings. The same approach can be used for corporate anniversaries, themed staff parties and gala dinners.

14. Comedians and Character Hosts

A comedian can perform a standalone set or host an awards ceremony, introducing speakers and bringing personality to the transitions between categories. What we do recommend, however, is discussing the style and material in advance. Given your audience, having a comedian shoot from the hip is a particularly risky endeavour!

15. Live Artists

Painters, illustrators and digital artists can create a piece while guests watch. The artwork might respond to the company, event theme or conversations taking place in the room, with guests invited to contribute where appropriate.

The finished piece can also become part of the event itself, whether it is revealed at the end of the evening or displayed during a company anniversary.

16. Magicians

We have hired magicians for drinks receptions, dinners and full gala performances. Close-up magic works particularly well while guests are mingling or seated at tables, as each group receives its own short performance. A stage show creates a shared moment for the whole room and can be scheduled after dinner or between formal parts of the programme.

17. Immersive Performers

Immersive theatre allows a story to unfold around the guests, with actors, dancers or musicians appearing throughout the venue. The performers may interact directly with the audience or create scenes that guests encounter as they move between spaces.

Their routes, cues and timing need to be rehearsed alongside the wider running order, particularly when they share the venue with catering teams, speakers or other entertainers.

Whether the event calls for a magician during welcome drinks or 25 dancers opening a conference, the act needs to suit the audience and earn its place in the programme. Careful planning ensures that the surprise guests experience is backed by rehearsals, approvals and precise timing.
